U.S. Woman Wins Boston Marathon For First Time In 33 Years

Tens of thousands of racers descended upon Boston for the 122nd Annual Boston Marathon and were greeted with miserable conditions. Heavy rains, cold temperatures, and high winds gusting up to 25 miles per hour made running tough for everybody involved. But, the conditions did not stop Olympian Desiree Linden from becoming the first U.S. woman to win the race in 33 years. She won with a time of 2:39:54.

It was the sixth time Linden has run the Boston Marathon. She finished in second place in 2011. A cold and shivering Linden spoke with a reporter after her win and said she was "thrilled" to have prevailed in the race.

Yuki Kawauchi of Japan took the men's title with a time of 2:15:58, finishing nearly two-and-half-minutes ahead of defending champion Geoffrey Kirui.
