Radiohead's Thom Yorke Will Skip Rock Hall of Fame Induction

Radiohead has made it abundantly clear that it's not particularly concerned with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or any other industry award, for that matter.

Now the band's front man, Thom Yorke, has announced that he has other plans for the date of the Rock Hall's induction ceremony on March 29.

Yorke will reportedly be in France, where one of his compositions it set to premiere at the Philharmonie de Paris. While the premiere isn't scheduled until more than a week after the induction ceremony, one could imagine that Yorke will be busy preparing. Why get all jet-lagged flying back and forth from Paris to Brooklyn for something you don't care about?

Unlike other famous rockers who have criticized the Hall in the past, Yorke says Radiohead isn't out to make a statement; the band simply has no strong feelings on the matter.

"...[W]e've always been very blasé about that stuff," Yorke recently told Variety. "So, we don't want to offend anyone. We just think that we just don't quite understand it. We've had it explained to us, so it's cool. But we don't really understand it as English people. I think our problem is essentially that every awards ceremony in the U.K. stinks. We grew up with the BRITs, which is like this sort of drunken car crash that you don't want to get involved with. So, yeah, we don't really know what to make of it."

One awards ceremony Yorke does seem to care about is the Academy Awards. His title song for the film Suspiria is expected to be nominated for best original song at this year's Oscars. He told Variety that he hopes it gets the nod.

"That would be great because it was a year and a half in my life, and I worked bloody hard on it," he said. "So, you know, sometimes it's nice to be recognized. Sometimes, if you understand what it means."

Radiohead was nominated for the Hall of Fame for the first time in 2017. But before it was announced whether the band was among that year's inductees, Radiohead announced a run of tour dates in South America the month of the induction ceremony.
