A Facebook event calling for people to storm Area 51 has received a response from the U.S. military. Over one million people have marked themselves as "going" to the event titled "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us" and over 900,000 say they are interested in attending. Anybody who shows up on September 20 can expect to be met with armed resistance from the guards at the top secret military base located in the Nevada desert.

"[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces," Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews said in a statement. "The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets."

In addition to armed guards who have permission to shoot trespassers on sight, anybody who attempts to attack the base will have to deal with harsh desert terrain. The base is not fenced in, but high-tech motion sensors are placed around the perimeter which make it nearly impossible to sneak in undetected.

Jackson Barnes, one of the people who created the event, wrote that the event was started as a joke and says he has no intention of storming Area 51.

"P.S. Hello ..U.S. government, this is a joke, and I do not actually intend to go ahead with this plan. I just thought it would be funny and get me some thumbsy uppies on the internet."
