Hwy 52 will be a mess this weekend

Work continues on Hwy 52 north of Rochester and it will definitely create some traffic issues this weekend, especially if you are going to watch the Vikings take on the Packers Sunday.

Here is the latest from MNDOT:  Motorists on Highway 52 at Cannon Falls will see alternating lane closures and travel over newly replaced bridges in each direction by Saturday, Oct. 14 as the bridge replacement project nears completion, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Traffic will no longer cross over to travel in single lanes next to each other in the southbound lanes by Saturday. However, motorists will see alternating lane closures as construction crews work to remove the crossover lanes that directed vehicles around the bridges that were under construction. Work is expected to be completed by Oct. 20, weather permitting.

The Hwy 52 bridge replacements at Cannon Falls are between the interchanges for Goodhue County Road 24 and Highway 19. Traffic travels in single lanes in each direction on the northbound Hwy 52 lanes through the work zone, while crews replace the southbound bridge. Once that bridge is built, traffic will be switched over so the northbound bridge can be replaced. Traffic delays are also likely in this work zone during high-traffic periods, such as weekends.

Motorists can find key information to plan ahead by reviewing MnDOT’s realtime road condition information at www.511mn.org or call 511. For information about the project, go to MnDOT’s
