Winter Storm Warning

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service La Crosse WI 404 PM CDT Fri Apr 13 2018

...Wintry Precipitation To Start Tonight...

.A complex spring storm system will impact the area through the weekend. Primarily rain will occur this evening, but as temperatures gradually cool overnight, the rain will become a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain and some sleet north of Interstate 90 with light snow expected across north-central Wisconsin.

During the day Saturday, the wintry mix will spread south into northeast Iowa while continuing in the Interstate 90 corridor. Enough cold air will filter in for primarily snow from about Rochester, MN to Black River Falls, WI and north.

The wintry mix and snow will continue to slowly sink southeast Saturday night into Sunday with most areas having all snow by Sunday afternoon.

Ice accumulations of 1/10 to 1/4 inch are possible for locations south of U.S. Highway 10. Most of the accumulations should be on elevated surfaces, with the greatest icing threat late tonight through Saturday. Wind gusts up to 40 mph will occur Saturday that could bring down some ice coated trees and power lines.

The highest snow totals are currently expected over portions of southeast Minnesota and western into north-central Wisconsin. 8 plus inches will be possible through Sunday roughly north of a Rochester, MN to Black River Falls, WI line.

Hazardous travel is expected at times from later tonight through the weekend with snow-covered or icy roads.
