'Cat-Fronted' Metal Band CATTERA Issue Single To Benefit NYC Feline Rescue

A new Brooklyn-based band is putting the fangs back into heavy metal.

Literally from the streets, the feline four-piece Cattera is fronted by a reformed street-kitty Roope-Shakir, the fur family member of Anna Mrzyglocki, a product manager at Fearless Records.

Cattera released its first single, the yowling, cat-nip-fueled headbanger "Hunger of the Beast" on Thursday, pledging all proceeds to benefit the Whiskers-A-GoGo non profit volunteer-run cat rescue in the band's hometown. Whiskers-A-GoGo is the same organization that got Roope-Shakir off the streets and into his forever home with Mrzyglocki.

"I knew Roope-Shakir had star power from the moment he entered my apartment," Mrzyglocki says. "I heard his emotion-filled meows and knew he needed to be the front cat of a metal band. It sparked a passion for A&R I never knew I had. People may think CATTERA is just another 'industry plant,' but there's real talent here."

Cattera cites "OG animal kingdom metal bands" like birdgrind innovators Hatebeak and dogcore stalwarts Caninus among its primary influences.
