Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry says his band has much more previously unreleased material in its archives than just the tracks that made it to last year's 1971: The Road Starts Here collection.

The Road Starts Here celebrated the band's 50th anniversary with early demos and recordings from rehearsals from the very beginning of the its career.

Perry tells Ultimate Classic Rock that he was stunned with how vibrant the band sounds on those early demos; it made him want to go through more recordings he might have previously written off.

"It sounded so good," Perry said. "I mean, we could have put that out on the first record. We just had two microphones when we recorded that. It shows how conscious we were of the dynamics and how the band sounded as a whole. Listening back to it, any time I hear those songs, it brings me back."

Beyond those primitive early recordings, Perry notes that Aerosmith has recorded every live show since the mid-'80s. Unsure if the band will write another new album, the guitarist wonders if Aerosmith should look inward and consider a collection of alternate takes, live versions and rarities.

"We have show upon show," he continued. "There's just so much material there, so much video, and we're finding so much more. I think it took our guys about three years to go through all of the stuff, including the videos, and just catalog everything, so we could see [what we had]."

In fact, Perry says there's a "surprising amount" of video footage from the pre-smart phone era, since record companies of the day were always looking for material to use in promotion.

He says the next few years could bear quite a few new Aerosmith releases.

With the band's return to Vegas on hold this summer, Perry has planned a handful of shows in the Northeast in July.
