Brian May 'Got Emotional' Seeing Ozzy's Reunion With Tony Iommi

Queen guitarist Brian May was as happy as anyone to see Ozzy Osbourne back onstage with Tony Iommi on Monday.

The pair of Black Sabbath cofounders shocked the world when they appeared onstage at the closing ceremonies of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in their hometown of Birmingham, England, to perform "Paranoid."

Ozzy's appearance came as a genuine surprise. The frontman hasn't performed live in almost three years and is less than two months removed from major spinal surgery, yet he looked and sounded great.

May, a longtime friend of Iommi and Black Sabbath, congratulated his friends via Instagram.

"That's the way to do it!!!" May wrote. "Must say I got a bit emotional seeing Ozzy and Iommi on stage together again. Epic!!!"

The four Black Sabbath cofounders publicly considered one final reunion at the Commonwealth Games in recent years, but Ozzy's health challenges and the pandemic appeared to close the door on the idea.

Ozzy and Iommi were backed by drummer Tommy Clufetos and bassist Adam Wakeman.

Iommi, who still lives near Birmingham, also performed at the Opening Ceremonies for the Games last month. His performance drew praise from Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, who has yet to comment on the closing ceremony as of this writing.
