Two receiver prospects to keep an eye on in the 2020 NFL Draft | KFAN 100.3

College Football Playoff National Championship - Media Day

The Minnesota Vikings have numerous holes to fill within the 2020 NFL Draft. The team is thin on the offensive line, defensive line, cornerback and at the wide receiver position. After trading away their most talented receiver on the roster, the Vikings are going to have to find a way to replace Stefon Diggs.

The good news for the Vikings is that this draft class is historically deep at the receiver position. Although the team hasn’t had the best luck in recent years when drafting a receiver in the first round, that shouldn’t stop them from taking a chance on one of the top receivers in this class

Justin Jefferson out of LSU and Jalen Reagor out of TCU are two realistic options for the Vikings with either their 22nd or 25th pick in the first round. Both receivers would be able to step in on day one and immediately contribute to the Vikings offense.

Jefferson is coming off of a National Championship season where he finished the season with 111 catches for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns. Standing at 6’1, Jefferson ran a 4.43 40-yard dash and his speed shows on his film.

Jefferson is primarily a slot receiver which would pair well with Cousins. Although he is better from the slot, he has proven that he has the ability to go up and win contested catches.

With the wide receiver position being one of the team's biggest needs, Jefferson would make a lot of sense if he falls to 22. There are other wide receiver needy teams right ahead of the Vikings, but if he is there at 22 he would be able to come in on day one and be a game changer for the Vikings.

Coming off an average statistical season at TCU, Reagor’s numbers do not jump out as much as Jefferson’s in 2019. This doesn’t have anything to do with Reagor having the inability to create separation, because he has done that frequently throughout his college career. It has much more to do with quarterback play and the fact that Jefferson played with the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback at LSU.

Reagor would bring with him what Diggs left when he was traded to Buffalo. He is a big play waiting to happen, something the Vikings desperately need with the departure of Diggs. He’s not as big as Jefferson standing at 5’11, but he has the ability to make up for his height with his separation.

The Vikings have struggled to find consistency in the punt return game without Marcus Sherels, and Reagor would be able to help the Vikings out in that area as well. The Vikings are in need of another home run hitter at the wide receiver position, and drafting Reagor would fill that need.

There are a lot of receivers in this class that could fit into the Vikings scheme. Both Reagor and Jefferson would be great additions to the team, but there are several different routes the team could go.

Rick Spielman has a total of 12 draft picks, giving him the draft capital to move up if the team falls in love with a certain player. If Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb or Henry Ruggs III start to fall, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Vikings trade up to try and land one of the big three in this draft class.

On the other side of that, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Spielman decide to trade back to acquire even more picks given the depth at the position in this draft class. Either way, the Vikings desperately need help at the wide receiver position, and this is the perfect draft class to fill that need.
